The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac

The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac Shakur
Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it learned to walk without having feet.
Funny it seems,
but by keeping it's dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else ever cared.

I first read this poem back in early high school about 8 years ago. I have always enjoyed Tupac's lyrics especially when they are positive and not demeaning towards women, I read this poem online looking for lyrics and felt like it was written for me. I related to the rose because my family originally assumed I would be a screw-up like my brothers, because I did not want to go to college, got bad grades, and went to parties all the time instead of doing homework. I knew I would get my act together and would prove my family wrong. To this day I still read this poem, and I like when people say I can not do something or they simply think I will not get through a tough situation. I love proving people wrong or being that rose that grew from concrete. I have made my family proud and my parents prouder, and there is no greater feeling. I am still not done, so tell me I can not do something...we shall see.
